NFL GM just echoed the Sean Mannion message Eagles fans heard many times

The initial shock of Sean Mannion being hired as the new Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator has worn off, and excitement about his potential has grown over the last month.

Many within the Green Bay Packers organization have praised the former quarterbacks coach as the next big thing in coaching, including Mannion's old boss, head coach Matt LaFleur. Another member of the Packers, general manager Brian Gutekunst, was asked about Mannion at the NFL Combine, and he joined everyone in praising the young coach.

"Not shocked that it's happened that fast, because the way he works. He's a tireless worker, exceptionally bright," Gutekunst said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "Usually when you bring in a young, really talented coach, (you're) hoping to have him for a number of years, and that's unfortunate for us, but he's going to do a great job, and the ability to see the game through a quarterback's eyes because of his playing career, coming from a coaching family. And there's just a lot to like there."

The hype train for Mannion is real, as he continues to be praised by everyone, giving Eagles fans hope that this first-time play caller will work out better than the other two that head coach Nick Sirianni has promoted. While Brian Johnson still had a top-10 unit in 2023, the turnovers and bubble-screen passes drove fans wild, and Kevin Patullo had everything go wrong statistically and play-calling-wise.

Mannion is completely changing the way the Eagles will run their offense, going from a simple scheme that runs the ball 60% of the time to a Sean McVay/Kyle Shanahan-style that is more motion and wide-open with the play calls. Many within the organization, including running back Saquon Barkley, have been eager to dip their toes in the pool and learn the offense.

Philly has needed a facelift on offense for a long time, and getting this kind of attention from Mannion is only going to benefit a unit that ranked in the bottom 15 in passing, rushing, scoring, and total offense in 2025.
